Babylon explained that the dawn of Hollywood's Golden Age was a time of unprecedented social change that sparked a search for identity for many in the movie industry. Not only did the 1920s and early 30s see a transition from silent films to talkies, it also heralded a new era of huge profits, wider audiences and mass censorship. Each of the five main characters responds to this new world in a different way, highlighting the far-reaching consequences of the sound revolution.
