Why don't you use 8 string guitar instead of hire bass player? There is a lot of 8 String guitar that you can play bass line with. So fire your bass player!!

That's just joke haha :D although 8 string guitar can achieve same octave as bass, it's still have different feel and sound, the bass technique that play in real bass cannot be achieve in guitar for 100%, it's because different scale, different string gauge, and different pickup and many other thing. But play bass line in 8 string guitar, is still fun :)
