Thomas Newman’s score for Sam Mendes’ 1999 film ‘American Beauty’ won the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack Album and features some of the most recognisable film music ever written. Throughout the score, Newman draws heavily on minimalist influences, creating textures driven largely by rhythm and motif. ‘Arose’ underscores the famous falling rose petals scene and uses soft interweaving marimbas throughout.
