Ratchet straps have been around for a long time, and there haven’t been any significant improvements with them - until now! Check out the OmegaStrap® to see how ratchet straps have been taken to the next level!

If you’re like me, you’ve used a lot of ratchet straps. For me, it’s a love/hate relationship. There is nothing like a ratchet strap to secure a load conveniently, and if set up correctly, securely.

Like anything else, you get what you pay for. Buying cheap ratchet straps is not a good idea, because when the device is tensioned to the level it needs to be if the components and the frame in the ratchet head are thin or weak, you are asking for trouble.

Besides that, there are some real inconveniences that most ratchet straps have. It’s these shortcomings that Brad Willodson of OmegaStrap® went after. The result is a great product that addresses these issues simply and elegantly.

What issues am I talking about? Thanks for asking! Five challenges come to mind:

1.) The hook doesn’t stay in place on the attachment point when you move to the other side of the load to set up the ratchet head. 2.) If you need to slightly loosen the load to readjust (like after a few miles on the road and the load or one of your pieces of equipment shifts), standard ratchet straps completely release. This isn’t good! 3.) The slot in the ratchet hub is hardly ever lined up correctly to thread the strap through. It’s especially bad in the dark, trying to finesse the slot into alignment. 4.) There isn’t a convenient way to securely wind up the excess strap when the strap is in use, and 5.) Storing the unit for the next use is a challenge too.

The OmegaStrap® addresses ALL of these! Their hook also has a flexible wire that allows you to hold the hook to the attachment point until the strap is tensioned. The flexible wire is easily replaced as well should it wear out. A slight loosening of the load and easy re-tensioning is accomplished by the unit’s side knob. The OmegaStrap® self aligns the hub slot when the unit is closed and partially opened. There is a durable elastic strap attached to the ratchet body that is used both to secure the excess strap when the unit is in use, as well as to store the whole unit.

Just to be clear, we don’t get paid to pass on the news for great products like this. It’s our pleasure to find great gear that solves common homeowner and recreationist issues and tell you about them. We enjoyed interviewing Brad and hearing firsthand the creative process of inventing these enhancements to the ratchet strap. We like to support small businesses - especially companies that are in the country we live in - the U.S. We don’t hate other countries, we just think if you can support your industrial/business/inventor base, do so!

We really like the OmegaStrap - we think you will too!
