We have chosen a drill bit as a workpiece just because it is easier to visualize. In fact lots of cutting tools have helical surfaces incorporated in their design - the end mills, gear hobs, gear slots, taps etc.
Our controller provides perfect indexing as well as coordination of movements along the helical surface. The microprocessor is still our favorite Atmega 2560, the same that powers the Arduino Mega.
Note that we developed our software from scratch. I am still planning to disclose some of its key features in a separate video, however lack of time forces to postpone this "less important" project.
