The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria on Friday honoured the former Executive Director, Marine & Operations, Nigerian Ports Authority -Hon. Onari Brown and the Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex - Dr Charles Okaga for Exemplary Humanitarian Leadership which has ensured industrial harmony at the nation’s seaports.

The Union’s President, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju who also serves as the Deputy President, Nigerian Labour Congress and the Vice President, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) Global said the peaceful interventions of Hon Onari Brown and Dr Charles Okaga have quelled series of serious crises that could have impacted the nation negatively.

He described the conciliators as friends of the Union who for the love of the maritime industry and the nation paid attention to the welfare of workers, never allowing disputes to escalate.

In his speech, Hon Onari Brown applauded the leadership of the Union for the rare recognition and for always choosing the path of peace, whilst calling for sustained collaboration between actors in the port system.

On his part, Dr Charles Bamidele Okaga, the Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex who also appreciated the Union for the award said workers play a critical role in the development and sustenance of the Port Industry’s value chain.

Maritime TV Africa reports that the Union comprises workers in Nigerian Ports Authority, Seafarers as well as the Docklabour and Shipping sector.
