Tipping points are critical thresholds beyond which a system reorganizes, often abruptly and/or irreversibly, with catastrophic implications. The IPCC states that abrupt responses and tipping points of the climate system, such as strongly increased Antarctic ice sheet melt and forest dieback, cannot be ruled out. There are also concerns that tipping points could trigger others, causing a domino effect.

This panel of international academic experts will discuss the latest scientific advances in our understanding of tipping points, including the associated risks and uncertainties, how to communicate those, and how policymakers can prepare for such low-likelihood but high-impact outcomes.
