In this video I'll take you on a bicycle tour through the picturesque town of Mittenwald, which was also called as "A Living Picture Book" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Mittenwald is also Germany's highest climatic health resort due to property of it's air and climate that are conducive to relaxation and health.
Mittenwald became known worldwide through the novel "Nazi Gold" from 1984. Since then, this place has been the destination of treasure hunters from all over the world. Mittenwald is surrounded by the Karwendel and Wettersten mountains and immediately on the border with Austria. Mittenwald is also known for the beautiful wall paintings which are also called Lüftlmalerei (Lüftelmalerei). It refers to an art form of facade painting native to southern Germany and Austrian small town rural areas.
The painter Fritz Prölß , who also studied with Franz Defregger , spent many summers in Mittenwald. Franz Karener, who was a German painter from Mittenwald was one of the earliest air painter in Upper Bavaria. Most of his work have been preserved in Mittenwald, which are religious portraits and depictions.
