3 tbsp of lye to 1 qt of water

In this video I show you how I bleached my Red Oak Stair Treads to accomplish a lighter color before staining. This video should be used for entertainment purposes only. If you bleach your own wood make sure you know what you are doing. Be Safe and please Wear Protective gear.

When Staining Red Oak you can get a red or pink color showing through some stains. Bleaching will help with that and can give you similar results to white oak. Another tip is to use a green tint to your stain or get a stain with some green tint to counter balance the red in the oak.

This is also good for restoring wood that had been stained and needs to be lightened.
