In March of 2019 NASA announced that we’re finally going back to the moon in 2024, and this time, it’s to stay. While we’ve had many orbiters and landers on and around the moon in the recent decades, we haven’t sent a person to the moon since december 1972, over 46 years ago, and that final moon landing with Apollo 17 was the first lunar landing to included a scientist in its crew, Geologist Harrison “Jack” Schmitt, so he’s still the only scientist today to have actually been to the moon.

NASA’s project Artemis outlines how we’ll be sending astronauts back to the moon by 2024, the original proposal was for 2028, but recently 2024 was set as the target date.
