Stephie and her husband Christian bought a 1936 coffee mill house in Stockach on Lake Constance nine years ago. Within a year, they renovated it from an ecological point of view, using many historic building materials. As a result, the house has retained its original charm. The tiles in the entrance area, which look as if they have always been there, are actually old tiles from a completely different building.

Stephie attached great importance to leaving some walls standing when dividing up the rooms in order to maintain a cozy atmosphere and create enough storage space. She is a passionate Instagram user and art lover and has met many artists whose work now adorns her home.

As a trained designer, Stephie likes to give free rein to her creativity and creates beautiful installations, design objects and lamps herself. For example, a dried old carrot in a brick adorns the reading room, and a paper lamp shines as a designer piece thanks to the "heaven and earth" folding technique. A peeled branch serves as a stylish curtain rail - and it's almost free.

The eye-catching stove in the dining area is not only a visual highlight, but also the main source of heat in the house. Stephie's furnishings are a mix of old and new, with design classics and finds from flea markets or bulky waste, such as a Thonet chair. In Denmark, Stephie rummages through flea markets and always finds bargains.

Flowers are a must for her and bring color and life to any room. Whether as a bouquet, dried flowers or floral patterns - everything creates a sense of comfort. The dining area, one of Stephie's favorite spots, houses a carpentry kitchen that fits perfectly into the space and makes use of every corner of the extension.

The family attached great importance to ecological materials during the renovation. The walls are plastered with lime and painted with clay paint, which keeps them breathable. In the bathroom, they dispensed with tiles and used Venetian plaster - "Stucco Veneziano" or "Marmorino" - a decorative plastering technique from the Italian Renaissance. This creates a smooth, shiny surface that resembles polished marble and is sealed with beeswax.

The floorboards in the living area have been treated with a Scandinavian-style soap technique to keep them light and open-pored. This environmentally friendly technique is based on natural ingredients and forms a protective barrier against moisture.

With a lot of love and the necessary know-how, Stephie has created a charming home for herself and her family.
