Over the past few years, inflation has really kicked in and the price of everything has been increasing like grocery prices, rent prices, and the cost of living in general to the point in which we are in a cost of living crisis. There are many reasons for this; however, some reasons are less obvious than others. In this video, I share 7 things that triggered this cost of living crisis.

1. The Locally Run Community

Not too long ago, we lived in communities that were locally run and operated. These communities are very beneficial to keep the cost of living lower because the goal of locally run places is simply to make a living and support the community. Now, however, we live in communities run by corporations and the problem is that their goal is to maximize profits and please shareholders. The cost of living increases in corporate fun communities because we care less about our neighbors, structures are more complex, and we put profit over people.

2. The Strong Family Structure

Not too long ago, families lived very close to one another and the family structure was very strong. This is economically beneficial for many reasons like getting childcare support, elderly support, resource sharing, and many other benefits. More recently, however, the family structure has gotten very weak and we have lost the benefits and have had to figure out things on our own. This has ultimately caused the cost of living to increase.

3. The Usage of Our Own Two Feet

For the majority of our existence as humans, we got around simply by walking; however, more recently we have created communities that are 100% dependent on cars. These car dependent communities have caused the cost of living to increase as cars are very expensive.

4. Free Time

We live in a fast paced, busy world where nobody has the time to do anything. And because of this, we spend more money by seeking convenience and outsourcing things in our lives. When we don't have the time to do simple tasks, like cooking, the cost of living increases drastically.

5. A Small World of Comparison

Back in the day, the world was very small and we only compared ourselves to those around us like our neighbors and tried to keep up with them. Now, however, due to the rise of technology and social media, we can see into the lives of others who are much better off and have much nicer things that we often go in debt to try to keep up. This information age where we compare ourselves to people has increased the cost of living.

6. Quality

Back in the day, things were made to last and you wouldn't need to constantly replace things. Nowadays, however, nothing is made of quality and so we have to constantly buy things over and over again, which increased the cost of living.

7. Simplicity

The biggest reason the cost of living has been increasing is because we have moved from a very simple way of life to a much more complex way of life. This complexity is causing us to spend more money for multiple reasons. The world will continue to be more complex; however, if you focus on your space in the world and live a more simple life, you can keep like slightly more affordable.
