Last year we raised three pigs for meat on our property and butchered them here. It is important to note that we are in Canada, the prices are in Candian but also wherever you are in the world will probably have a different cost of feed and pigs.

A BIG COST IS HIRING A BUTCHER. I really should have mentioned this. Butchers vary depending on where you are. Ask around. Get reviews. Find out what you are paying for (hanging weight or butchered). We didn't go this route so I can't really speak to it. most people will do this their first time.

We also have a lot of fat that I can render down for lard. That isn't included in the weight.

I do talk about:

What butcher cuts we ended up with
How much feed we gave to the pigs over the 173 days
How much we spent (this will vary wherever you are)
Our overall experience - was it worth it?
