Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) is anxious about her upcoming nuptials, worried about her dress and upset her father James (Frank Pettingell) won't attend. Lucille (Jennifer Moss) dislikes her bridesmaid dress and Len's (Peter Adamson) nightie gift causes a stir! Swindley (Arthur Lowe) gets roaring drunk at an impromptu stag night organized by the menfolk. He then proceeds to make a drunken speech and pass out after a singalong. Emily confides in Ken (Bill Roache) that she knows deep down Swindley doesn't love her. To make matters worse a telegram arrives from her brother Edgar saying he can't attend as he is stuck in Germany.
