Scarf joining the wood strips is necessary to reach 4m /12ft of length. For that I build a simple jig. it is recommended to cut a scarf length of at least 5 times the thickness of the wood.

The gluing is done with epoxy resin thickened with wood flour and clamped tightly for more than 24 hours.

When gluing the gunnels to the boat, make sure you wet out both the plywood and the wood strip with plenty of epoxy resin. This saturates the wood and eliminates the risk of not having enough resin in the joint. This job can be done singe handed but it's best to have someone to help.

This is step 9 of a series of movies illustrating the stitch and glue boat building technique. I have chosen the sailing Dinghy Kingfisher 14 designed by Selway Fisher: http://www.selway-fisher.com/GPDinghy...
