I may have heard this in my formative years but the first time I actually remember hearing it was in the 90"s. Smokie remade a version of this with Roy Chubby Brown (if you're easily offended DO NOT look him up). It's a sad romantic tale of love from afar and that love buggering off and leaving. Only to discover someone else had the same feelings for the protagonist. So win-win then.
