The kids are out of school and the roads were packed! The forest has as many mosquitos as the hwy has motorists, and it takes an hour to drive through town. Welcome to summer in Brainerd!
We celebrated Adelle's graduation Friday evening as she walked up to receive her diploma. It reminded me of how fast life is moving. I tell my girls that they can never move out of the house! I think my scared of growing up. At least I find comfort surrounded by nature. Time seems to stand still when I'm in the truck camper. I had a good time this weekend. I revisited a trashed campsite in the Pillsbury State Forest. This spot is only 15 minuets from Mandi's house. I should stay in this forest more often, but I have been running around this forest since I was in high school. I have found a number of campsites that look to have been occupied by folks squatting on the land. Because of its close proximity to Brainerd this forest is an easy place to crash when you burn all your bridges and have nowhere left to go. I have seen the conservation officer more in the last few years. I talked with him last year about the number of abandoned tents and campsites. The truth is there is not enough manpower to patrol the forest.
I arrived Saturday afternoon. I was surprised to see the forest was not being used. I located multiple dispersed campsites. I never made it to the horse campground, but I only saw 1 camper setup dispersed camping. I decided to settle in early Saturday. My back and neck were killing me. Sunday Toby and I decided to go on a walk. We got to a point on the road where he refused to go any further. I'm not sure what had him so frazzled. He was making a snorting sound and pinned his ears back.....he was not happy! Later that night Mandi and Tilli showed up. We shared supper and enjoyed the fire. Monday was a rainout...but that was OK. We got to spend time together and that's what really matters.
I hope you enjoy video. I'll keep you updated with what the surgeon says next week regarding the shoulder. Thanks for spending time with us this weekend!

This last paragraph is for ranking in search results. I want to go full time truck camper living so one day I can go camping in the worst snowstorm. But even though camping in an extreme blizzard can be fun, its nothing compared to the excitement of camping in abandoned places. The bottom line is whether I'm camping in winter snowstorm, trying to figure out how to stay cool truck camping, or solo camping in heavy rain I'm doing what I love making truck camper camping videos.
