The Team heads on one of their biggest adventures yet to Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire Africa. Just two months prior the team cleared customs here before heading to Ascension Island. Now they plan to spend 20 days fishing the Ivory Coast for Giant Blue Marlin.

The team is now 10 days into their 20 day fishing trip off the coast of Abidjan. The trip has been slow so far but the boys remain patient.

After nearly two weeks of fishing the conditions finally start to change. The team catches their biggest fish of the trip a healthy 750 pounder. That fish marks the beginning of an epic week of fishing. With the team landing a fish over 600 pounds every day for 5 days straight. Some days catching 2 fish over 600 and one day producing an 850 and 700 only a couple hours apart.

As fun as the fishing is the team is quickly reminded how quickly things can change in this unfamiliar country. While fighting a Marlin a large storm begins to approach the team. After releasing the Marlin they decide to call the day early to avoid getting stuck in what they thought was a large rain squall. After picking up and running 11 miles at 22 knots the storm catches up to the team stopping them in their tracks. Winds immediately begin blowing 40+ knots and it becomes very clear to the team that this storm isn’t just a large rain squall but is in fact a large weather system that came across from the neighboring county Ghana. The small 33 foot boat takes a large wave over the bow filling the cockpit halfway with water raising concerns of sinking the boat. Winds reach 60+ knots and waves are recorded at 10-12 feet tall.

It takes the team a grueling 6 and a half hours to get the remaining 21 miles back to port. By the time they reach the mothership it’s nearly 10pm.

The boys don’t let that discourage them and are up and at it the very next morning. No one wants to miss out on the hot bite. There’s only a handful of days left on the trip at this point and the fun continues. The team catches several more large models over the course of the next few days.

As the trip draws to an end the crew reflects on their time spent in this rugged and relatively untouched country. It’s the most underdeveloped place the team has gone yet in their travels. Which raised concerns for several of the team members.

It’s safe to say that the entire team was pleasantly surprised by their visit here and looks forward to their return. There’s no doubt they will be back for another fishing trip.
