The process of conversion from Pagan beliefs to Christianity was long and complicated. We tend to perceive it as a singular, stilted event - separating history into before conversion and after conversion. But this is disingenuous. The process of conversion was prolonged and complicated - Pagan ideas and Christian ideas existed alongside each other, and while churchmen condemned this in official documents, in private, they accepted it.
