A second look at the British Museum's special exhibition - LEGION: life in the Roman army,

This time, I talk about some of the exhibits in more detail, including weapons and armour. In particular, some of the tombstones commemorating soldiers, talking about what they can tell us about uniform, equipment and careers in the army. So we talk about the distinction between Roman citizen legionaries and non citizen auxiliaries, about standard bearers and centurions.

The idea is to take the exhibition - which is well worth a visit if you get the chance - and from there broaden out to discuss other aspects of the Roman army.
