Reza Bazaar of Mashhad was built by the order of Mohammad Reza Shah in 1976 and according to Pahlavi laws. After the approval of the construction order of Reza Bazaar in the Iranian Parliament and the former Sheikh Tusi Street, scattered and old buildings and shops around the holy shrine were destroyed and in 1975, the construction of Reza Bazaar in Mashhad began and was completed in 1976. Reza Bazaar of Mashhad was built for pilgrims and tourists of Holy Mashhad next to the holy shrine. Finally, each shopkeeper in Reza Bazaar was given one.

Before the establishment of Reza Bazaar in Mashhad, there was no place near the shrine of Imam Reza (AS) where pilgrims and tourists could easily buy souvenirs of Mashhad. This led to the provision of a 960-meter-long and 33-meter-wide plot of land to the famous Pahlavi-era architect ‌ Dariush Borbour, to design and build a new shopping center. The interesting point was that Reza Bazaar of Mashhad was built in less than 11 months and was made available to the people!

بازار رضا مشهد به فرمان محمدرضا شاه در سال 1355 شمسی و براساس قوانین پهلوی ساخته شد. بعد از تصویب دستور ساخت بازار رضا در مجلس ایران و خیابان شیخ طوسی سابق، بناها و مغازه های پراکنده و قدیمی اطراف حرم مطهر تخریب شدند و در سال 1354، مراحل ساخت بازار رضا مشهد شروع شد و سال 1355 به اتمام رسید. بازار رضا مشهد برای زائران و گردشگران مشهد مقدس در کنار حرم مطهر بنا شد. درنهایت، به هر کدام از کسبه مغازه ای در بازار رضا داده شد.

پیش از ایجاد بازار رضا مشهد، مکانی در نزدیکی حرم امام رضا (ع) نبود که زائران و گردشگران بتوانند از آنجا به راحتی سوغاتی های مشهد را خریداری کنند. همین امر موجب شد زمینی به طول 960 متر و عرض 33 متر در اختیار مهندس معمار معروف دوره پهلوی،‌ داریوش بوربور، قرار بگیرد تا مرکز خریدی جدید را طراحی و بنا کند. نکته جالب هم این بود که بازار رضا مشهد در کمتر از 11 ماه ساخته شد و در اختیار مردم قرار گرفت!
