When I was young, I used to read a ton of books. I read entire series and felt excited when I returned from the library with a new stack of books. This continued in high school.
I started to read less and less in my 20s, though. Even to the point of not picking up a book for long periods of time. Because I read a lot for work I didn’t feel like reading books in my leisure time. And when I checked my phone or watched Netflix, it would give me this instant gratification.
But I missed reading. Being immersed in a story for hours on end, or learning new ways to improve my life. Books have a degree of depth that other mediums just can’t compare with.
So a while back I made a conscious decision to pick up reading again. But this time I was going to be more proactive and actually build a reading habit.
And it worked! I’ve been reading a couple of books per month consistently over the last year.
And there are a few things that have really helped me build up a reading routine. If you’re struggling to read more books, they may help you become a consistent reader, too.
Here are my 7 tips to read more books.
