If you started a new Clash of Clans base and rushed it instantly to Town Hall 16, it would cost, at bare minimum, around 50 thousand dollars. In fact, to fully gem from town hall 14 to town hall 15 costs about 10 grand.

But what if I told you that it’s possible to get a Town Hall 15 Base for less than the price of a single Clash Pass, or a town hall 16 for at little as 20 dollars?

This is the crazy story of the billion dollar Clash of Clans black market, a place where teenagers become millionaires, and SuperCell is tearing their hair out trying to put a stop to it.

For over a decade, SuperCell’s sole revenue source has been microtransactions.
If you want to skip ahead, and rise up through the trophy ranks in Clash of Clans, handing over money to SuperCell has always been the shortcut. You can buy resources with gems, as well as instantly finish builds which you would otherwise need to wait days, or even weeks to complete.

This system is pretty standard in Free to play games, but speedrunning a SuperCell game has never exactly been cheap. In fact, to skip a single 24 hour build currently costs 260 gems.
So that’s part one of the recipe.

Part 2 came when SuperCell finally added Supercell ID. This genuinely great idea was to make sure that players could keep their progress, even when they bought a new phone or tablet.
Unfortunately for SuperCell, this was when the floodgates really opened.

Selling accounts became incredibly easy for these rogue traders, since all they needed to hand over to buyers was a username and password, simple as that.
Marketplaces began popping up to meet market demands, and long time players began buying up accounts in bulk to fill their clans with high level bases.
Trading Clash of Clans accounts went from a niche market hidden away in the corners of forums and sketchy eBay listings to full on G2A-like services, with instant deliveries and even customer service.

It doesn’t take a genius to see just how big of a market this shady business truly is after a quick google search.
But it’s not just the legitimacy of some of these sellers that raises a red flag. Obviously some of these sellers are super sketchy and will leave you empty handed, but there are some other pretty noteworthy concerns too.
