Most Australians live within fifty kilometres of the beach; just like Sam and Jim. Their piece of the coast is a short walk from the surf, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. They want a garden to complement their modern beach house, but salt laden winds and poor soils are just the beginning of their challenges.

Jim wants a slice of the beach in his backyard while Sam’s dream is to recreate childhood memories of a rolling lawn surrounded by lush garden beds - aesthetically opposite gardens. Sam and Jim must walk the tightrope between ruggedly natural or verdant greenery to successfully transform their bare, flat building site into a magnificent garden.

A year after it was finished, Michael McCoy returns to see if the blend works, or if it’s grown into an expensive mish mash.
