We often tell our customers to trim back branches 3 feet from the roof to limit easy access for raccoons. I further explain that raccoons won’t make the jump from a tree like a squirrel would. From my experience, a raccoon will only jump as a last resort when they are fleeing a situation.

If you watch carefully you will notice the raccoons tail swirling like a propeller while in the air. Very interesting!

Our ladder was placed under the open soffit to assist the raccoon in climbing down to ground level from the attic. Once it reached the midway point of the ladder, the raccoon decided she wanted to get to the ground as quickly as possible. After making it to the ground, she quickly ran to the front lawn where she climbed a tree. She was not hurt after this short jump.
