Las Peñas was the first neighborhood in Guayaquil that was established on a 60 meter hill (Santa Ana Hill) over looking the city to defend against pirates attacks over 400 years ago.

If you are visiting Guayaquil, don't miss the opportunity to view the entire city in 360 degree view at the lighthouse El Farro. Very close to the new La Perla ferris wheel and the Malecon 2000. However, to get to the top, you must climb 444 steps. Very easy and very doable if you take your time because the steps are spread out and not steep. Many restaurants, craft shops, bars, resting areas, and museums to enjoy. A great half day or full day adventure.
