Private Benjamin is a 1980 American comedy film produced by Nancy Meyers and Goldie Hawn who also plays the lead role in the movie. This movie was the first ever movie screenplay specifically written and tailored for an actress -Goldie Hawn.


The film was one of the biggest box office hits of 1980. In 1981, Private Benjamin was made into an Emmy and Golden Globe–winning television series of the same name that ran from 1981 to 1983.

Goldie Jeanne Hawn born in Washington, D.C., on November 21, 1945.
At the time of filming Goldie was only 35 years old and was then married to her second husband musician Bill Hudson of the Hudson Brothers. The pair had two children together , son Oliver (born September 7, 1976) who is best known for his roles as Adam Rhodes in the CBS comedy series Rules of Engagement (2007–2013) and daughter Kate (born April 19, 1979). She rose to prominence for her performance in the film Almost Famous (2000), for which she won a Golden Globe and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her other films include How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), Raising Helen (2004), The Skeleton Key (2005), You, Me and Dupree and many more. Hudson filed for divorce from Goldie on August 15, 1980 just few months before the release of “Private Benjamin”.
Goldie went through boot camp training for six weeks in her preparation for the role.Off-duty service men and women were used as extras for the war games and basic training sequences as the replica basic training course was so authentic.
Her latest work include a cameo role as Mrs Claus in 2018 movie “the Christmas Chronicles” starring alongside her husband Kurt Russell. With whom she has a son Wyatt Russell (born July 10, 1986).
Goldie is now 73 years old.

Verla Eileen Regina Brennan Born On September 3, 1932 in Los Angeles, California.She gained critical acclaim for her role as Doreen Lewis in Private Benjamin, for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She was 48 years old at the time of filming.
Brennan was hit by a passing car in 1982 in Venice Beach while leaving a restaurant with Goldie Hawn, and suffered substantial injuries. She took three years off work to recover, and ,allegedly, had to overcome a subsequent addiction to painkillers. In 1990 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she successfully treated.
Brennan died on July 28, 2013, of bladder cancer. She was 80 years old.

Halroy Candis Williams (born December 14, 1938). Played sgt. “ted” Ross And was 42 years old at the time of the filming. He is now 80 years old.

Armand Anthony Assante born October 4, 1949, in New York. He played a handsome Frenchman Henri Tremont, who becomes the love interest of a U.S. soldier played by Goldie Hawn. He was 31 years old at the time of filming and is now 69 years old.

Samuel Wanamaker, Born June 14, 1919, played Judy Benjamin’s father Teddy. At the time of filming he was 61 years old, and sadly passed away on December 18, 1993, at the age of 74.

Barbara Barrie born , May 23, 1931, played Judy Benjamin mother Harriet Benjamin. Barbara was 41 years old at the time of filming and is now 80 years old.
