Canyons of the Ancients National Monument supervisory park ranger Amala Posey-Monk discusses how the monument, located in southwestern Colorado, is working to achieve International Dark Sky status, to include sky quality metering that will be conducted by volunteers and Bureau of Land Management staff throughout 2024. Achieving International Dark Sky status is a rigorous process that requires conservation efforts not only by the BLM but also participation from the local community for the improvement of the the nightscape. On clear nights, visitors to the monument can see countless stars and the Milky Way in the night sky.
