Drone footage filmed showed large-scale destruction after Hurricane Helene passed through North Carolina. In Asheville, floodwater turned roads into rivers while debris littered roads and around stores. In Swannanoa roads and paths were caked in mud. Thirty people have died in North Carolina, with nearly all the deaths in Buncombe County, said Sheriff Quentin Miller. Some of the worst rains brought by Helene hit western North Carolina, which saw almost 30 inches (76 cm) fall on Mount Mitchell in Yancey County, the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center reported.
