Morningstar Quill is a self-taught photographer who has developed a unique style and approach to photography through years of experimentation and exploration. Born and raised in Pikangikum, she discovered her passion for photography at a young age and has been refining her skills ever since.

In this portrait, Morningstar intimately shares the profound impact of photography on her mental well-being, particularly during times of grief. Through heartfelt reflections, she articulates a powerful vision of inspiring the upcoming generation of artists, a mission that holds special significance as she nurtures the creative spirit within her son. Morningstar sheds light on the rich tapestry of talents flourishing in Indigenous communities, inviting curiosity and dialogue. With an open-hearted commitment, she extends an invitation for questions, positioning herself as a resource for those seeking to explore and understand the diverse artistic expressions within Indigenous cultures.

In April 2023, Isorine Marc (Jamii's Alchemist) and photographer & videographer Gillian Mapp traveled to Pikangikum First Nation, ON Canada, for the 4th time since 2018. This visit to Pikangikum intended to shine a spotlight on the emerging and talented artists of the community, as well as community leaders and Elders. May their stories and voices be heard.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of art teacher Vanessa Hazel at Eenchokay Birchstick School, who was instrumental in supporting us through this project. Thank you to Eenchokay Birchstick School and the Pikangikum Education Authority for supporting this project and to Pikangikum for welcoming us into the community.
With the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
