In 2020 Libertine’s ‘intelliGEN’ Opposed Free Piston development platform was used to demonstrate variable compression ratio combustion using bioethanol, an energy-dense low carbon biofuel. This technical programme used a variable compression ratio cold start strategy to reduce misfiring under cold start conditions due to combustion chamber wall wetting.

This webinar, hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, sets out the piston motion control performance requirements, the technical innovations that allow Libertine’s intelliGEN platform to meet these requirements, and the validation of this performance through simulation and prototype testing.
