In this video we visit Hawksburn, a station along the Cranbourne, Frankston, and Pakenham line in the inner south-eastern suburb of South Yarra. I visited Hawksburn to film Steamrail steam trains K183 & A2 986 having a parallel run with the Tait electric multiple unit between Moorabbin and Flinders Street along the Frankston Line. However things didn't quite go to plan.

Earlier in the afternoon a train on the Cranbourne/Pakenham lines hit a tree between Toorak and Armadale stations. This caused major delays on the Cranbourne, Frankston, and Pakenham lines; with the Cranbourne/Pakenham tracks (Caulfield Local) closed, forcing all trains to use the Frankston tracks (Caulfield Through). Trains were operating 30 - 40 minutes behind schedule.

This however meant I was able to record a somewhat rare occurrence of Cranbourne, Pakenham, and V/Line trains on the Frankston Line. We see the usual Comeng and Siemens trains on the Frankston Line, but also High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT's) on the Cranbourne/Pakenham Lines, and V/Line Vlocity DMU's on Gippsland/Traralgon services. Later on we see Steamrail's A2 986 & K183 passing through the station, followed by the Tait a couple of minutes later.

Date:
November 2022.

EDIT: In the video I said that Comeng 530M - 115T - 552M had been retired from service. Now at the time of editing and uploading this video it was commonly believed that this was the case, especially seeing that the retirement of the EDI Comeng's have been ongoing with the introduction of the HCMT's, and that the set had been stored in the sidings at Newport. However this was not the case as by late December 2022 the set had some work done to it and is now back in service.
