Northern Virginia, aka NoVa, is unlike any other area in the state. Not only is it one of the wealthier places in the country, but it's also one of the most 'progressive'. Perhaps NoVa's most famous city is Arlington. While Arlington is best known for being the host city of the National Cemetery, the east coast city has a lot more to offer than just that singular monument. That's not to say that the National Cemetery isn't worth visiting. In fact, if you've never had the chance to visit it before, your first experience will likely be quite moving.

Arlington has a wealth of attractions that are sure to impress even the hardest to please travelers. The city is located in Northern Virginia, just north of Alexandria and south of Washington, DC. As you may be aware, Arlington is home to the headquarters of the Pentagon. Several other significant government installations and important universities also call the city of roughly 250,000 residents their home.

If touring colleges and governmental buildings don't sound that exciting, you should know that art, culture, and nightlife is alive and well in Arlington. Interestingly, the area has the highest concentration of unmarried people in the area. It also boasts the fifth-highest median income in the country.

From water parks to nature preserves and museums, Arlington is a city that won't disappoint. The majority of attractions do tend to have deep ties to the nation's capital and its operations, but that just means that you're sure to receive a history and civics lesson while visiting this often overlooked and underappreciated Virginian town. If you're planning a visit and don't know where to start, watch this video in full to see Viewcation's picks of the top things to do in Arlington, Virginia.
