Explosions from the Ikeja Cantonment saw residents in Lagos fleeing for safety under the assumption that a military coup was underway. Governor Bola Tinubu soon went on a national broadcast to inform the nation that it was an accident.

Brigadier-General George Emdin, spokesperson and commander of the 9 mechanized military brigade in Ikeja, apologized and explained that the series of explosions were due to a storage system incident
