Happy #musicmonday

This week, I'm coming to you on the upright bass.
I bought this beauty about a year and a half ago, and I've been slowly working my way back up to where I used to be when I was playing upright 4+ hours a day. I'm still not quite there on getting my upright chops back to how they were when I was a young lad, but I'm getting better, and getting some of that muscle memory back.

I just put in a drum track in Logic Pro, ended up on a Neo Soul groove and liked the way the bass drum really thumped, I thought it would sound good with upright, so I created a little groove to go over that drum track, and after only 5-6 takes I landed on this one.

I love the sound of upright, and I'm getting used to miking and mixing this complex instrument. I think I'm getting closer to the sound I want out of the upright, but will probably keep experimenting.

Bass: Shen 3/4 Upright bass
Mic: sE Electronics X1S
Interface: Behringer UMC404HD
DAW: Logic Pro

I ended up using 2 channel EQ plugins, one to tame some of the wonky frequencies, and the other to bring up some of the growl and boom back. Then I put a light compressor on, mostly for the color of the tone and to tame some of the "clacks" as I slapped the bass a bit.
I put a limiter on the master bus to boost the volume a bit, but that was about it!

Hope you like it!
