The daughter of Dubai's ruler who tried to flee the country in 2018 later sent secret video messages to friends accusing her father of holding her "hostage" as she feared for her life. In footage shared exclusively with BBC, Princess Latifa Al Maktoum says commandos drugged her as she fled by boat and flew her back to detention. A BBC Panorama exclusive.

Since the release of the film the United Nations human rights office has asked the United Arab Emirates for proof that Princess Latifa, the daughter of Dubai's ruler, is alive.

The UAE Embassy in London has responded by carrying the following message from the Family:

"In response to media reports regarding Sheikha Latifa, we want to thank those who have expressed concern for her wellbeing, despite the coverage which certainly is not reflective of the actual position.

Her family has confirmed that Her Highness is being cared for at home, supported by her family and medical professionals.

She continues to improve and we are hopeful she will return to public life at the appropriate time."
