In the presence of Erich Honecker (Secretary General of the SED), the topping-out ceremony for the new Sports and Recreation Centre (SEZ) in East Berlin takes place in 1980.
The centre is built in the Friedrichshain district.
East Berliners will soon be able to pursue various sporting activities there.
The archive material provides a rough overview of the planned interior of the facility.
Erich Honecker is welcomed by the construction workers. During a tour, he is shown the modern construction.
The SEZ is officially opens in 1981.
