And...3-5 business days later, I finished watering my plants 🫠

Calatheas have a bad rep in the plant community, but THEY'RE SO PRETTY. This was one of my first plants on my plant collection journey, and I learned early on that these do not like my tap water. After buying gallons and gallons of distilled water, I finally feel like I perfected my watering recipe so that I no longer need to buy water AND I can keep my calatheas crispy-free.

My new plant care routine is simple:
(1) Spray for pests (I have a DIY insecticidal soap spray recipe below)
(2) Quarantine and acclimate
(3) Repot with better soil (linked below)
(4) Provide lots of sunlight or supplement with grow lights and feed regularly

And if you want to level-up your plant game, propagating is so much fun! I have tons of Shorts on various ways I propagate plants, but the simplest way for most houseplants is to submerge nodes in water or perlite + water and wait for growth!

If you are starting your plant journey, I will say light is arguably the most important factor in plant care. Plants need way more light than you would think (even so-called "low light" plants will thrive better in brighter light). I supplement most of my plants with grow lights (my favorites are linked below). The shelf I featured in this video is such a simple, effective way to display your houseplants and make sure they are getting sufficient light.
