আছে ভাবের তালা যেই ঘরে
সেই ঘরে সাঁই বাস করে।।

ভাব দিয়ে খোল ভাবের তালা
দেখবি সে মানুষের খেলা।
ঘুচে যাবে মনের ঘোলা
থাকলে সে রূপ নিহারে।।

ভাবের ঘরে কি মূরতি
ভাবের লন্ঠন ভাবের বাতি।
ভাবের বিভাব হলে এক রতি
অমনি সে রূপ যায় সরে।।

ভাব নইলে ভক্তিতে কি হয়
ভেবে বুঝে দেখ মনুরায়।
যার যে ভাব সে জানতে পায়
লালন কয় বিনয় করে।।

ফকির লালন সাঁই ছিলেন একাধারে একজন আধ্যাত্মিক বাউল সাধক, মানবতাবাদী, সমাজ সংস্কারক ও দার্শনিক। তাঁর গানের মধ্যে সন্ধান পাওয়া যায় এক বিরল মানব দর্শনের। লালন শাহ, যিনি লালন ফকির বা লালন সাঁই নামেও পরিচিত, তিনি মৃত্যুর ১২৯ বছর পর আজও বেঁচে আছেন তাঁর গানের মাঝে। তাঁর লেখা গানের কোন পাণ্ডুলিপি ছিল না, কিন্তু গ্রাম বাংলায় আধ্যাত্মিক ভাবধারায় তাঁর রচিত গান ছড়িয়ে পড়ে লোকের মুখে মুখে। ফকির লালন সাঁই কে "বাউল-সম্রাট" বা "বাউল গুরু" হিসেবেও আখ্যায়িত করা হয়ে থাকে। তাঁর গানের মাধ্যমেই উনিশ শতকে বাউল গান বেশ জনপ্রিয়তা অর্জন করে। তিনি প্রায় দু হাজার গান রচনা করেছিলেন বলে লালন গবেষকরা বলেন। ভারত উপমহাদেশে সর্বপ্রথম, তাকে ‘মহাত্মা’ উপাধি দেয়া হয়েছিল।

লালনের গান লালনগীতি বা লালন সংগীত হিসেবে পরিচিত। লালন তার সমকালীন সমাজের নানান কুসংস্কার, সাম্প্রদায়িকতা, সামাজিক বিভেদ ইত্যাদির বিরুদ্ধে তার রচিত গানে তিনি একই সাথে প্রশ্ন ও উত্তর করার একটি বিশেষ শৈলী অনুসরণ করেছেন। এছাড়া তার অনেক গানে তিনি রূপকের আড়ালেও তার নানান দর্শন উপস্থাপন করেছেন।

সমগ্র বিশ্বে, বিশেষ করে বাংলাদেশসহ সমগ্র ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে লালনের গান বেশ জনপ্রিয়। শ্রোতার পছন্দ অনুসারে বিবিসি বাংলার করা সর্বকালের সেরা ২০টি বাংলা গানের তালিকায় লালনের "খাঁচার ভিতর অচিন পাখি কেমনে আসে যায়" গানটির অবস্থান ১৪তম। আত্মতত্ত্ব, দেহতত্ত্ব, গুরু বা মুর্শিদতত্ত্ব, প্রেম-ভক্তিতত্ত্ব, সাধনতত্ব, মানুষ-পরমতত্ত্ব, আল্লাহ্ নবীতত্ত্ব, কৃষ্ণ-গৌরতত্ত্ব এবং আরও বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে লালনের গান রয়েছে।

লালনের গান "লালনগীতি" বা কখনও "লালন সংগীত" হিসেবে প্রসিদ্ধ। লালন মুখে মুখে গান রচনা করতেন এবং সুর করে পরিবেশন করতেন। এ ভাবেই তার বিশাল গান রচনার ভাণ্ডার গড়ে ওঠে। তিনি সহস্রাধিক গান রচনা করেছেন বলে ধারণা করা হয়। তবে তিনি নিজে তা লিপিবদ্ধ করেন নি। তার শিষ্যরা গান মনে রাখতো আর পরবর্তীকালে লিপিকার তা লিপিবদ্ধ করতেন। আর এতে করে তার অনেক গানই লিপিবদ্ধ করা হয় নি বলে ধারনা করা হয়।

Lalon is also known as Fakir Lalon Shah, Lalon Shah, Lalon Fakir, or Mahatma Lalon (Bengali: লালন; 17 October 1774 – 17 October 1890; Bengali: 1 Kartik 1179) was a Bengali philosopher, baul saint, mystic, songwriter, social reformer, and one of the most influential figures in Bengal. He is noted for his philosophy of Lalon, which today has many followers in Bangladesh and India.
Lalon's songs, known as Lalon Geeti, are widely popular in Bengal and beyond.

He had no education but was exposed to Vaishnavism and Sufism from an early age. When he was a young man, he traveled extensively throughout Bengal and beyond, absorbing various philosophical and religious ideas. He eventually settled in the village of Kushtia, Bangladesh where he spent the rest of his life.

Lalon's philosophy emphasizes humanity and rejects all forms of discrimination. He was a critic of caste and he believe in gender inequality and advocated for the emancipation of women and lower castes. His songs are often critical of religious hypocrisy and social injustice. Lalon's influence can be seen in the work of many Bengali poets, musicians, and social reformers. Today, his songs are sung by people of all festivals and social backgrounds in Bengal and beyond.

In 2004, Lalon was ranked number 12 in BBC's poll of the Greatest Bengali of all time.

Lalon Geeti is a form of Bengali folk music that originated in the 18th century. It is named after the poet and musician Fakir Lalon Shah, who popularized the genre.
