In a distant era, the Earth suffered under the tyranny of ten suns. The legendary archer Hou Yi was summoned by the Jade Emperor to resolve the crisis. With an ancient wooden bow and phoenix-feathered arrows, Hou Yi shot down nine suns, leaving one. In gratitude, the Jade Emperor offered Hou Yi an immortality potion. He kept it safe, but his disciple Gan tried to steal it. Chang'e, Hou Yi's wife, drank the potion to prevent Gan from taking it and was taken to the Moon. There, she built a Crystal Palace and befriended a Jade Rabbit. Hou Yi, devastated, vowed to find his wife and faced many challenges to reach the Moon. During the Moon Festival, people honor Chang'e and Hou Yi with mooncakes, remembering the beauty and sadness of their love.
