Salaijo folk song is very popular across Nepal, which particularly come from Magar and Gurung communities of western Nepal.

Krishna Gurung, one of Nepal's top folk singers, has collected songs from around Nepal for many years, and notated them to help preserve the traditions which are dying out in many villages. These songs have often gained new popularity with pop covers and as film songs.

Kharka Bahadur Budha is one of Nepal's best madal players. This traditional Nepali instrument used to have many typical rhythmic patterns or forms. Kharka learnt 16 of them, but his father knew 22.

This trio (with Govinda Gurung) have recently done a cultural exchange programme with sell-out concerts in Japan - the Japanese Ainu ethnic minority have very similar appearance and traditions to the Nepali Gurung tribe.
