Living #AltaBadia as locals means living it like Ladins. They are present in five valleys among the #Dolomites and speak a very ancient pre-Roman language, contaminated by Latin.

The beautiful Ladin Museum in San Martino in Badia show how this ancient culture was born and developed.

Around 30,000 people speak Ladin today. In this episode, we discover some archaic terms they still use, which have crystallized over time in the shadow of rocky spurs.

Also the traditional high-altitude Ladin settlements of #viles have also been preserved. They are clusters of a few ‘masi’ (farms) and they were born as shelters during the Germanic invasions. In these small communities, families have always shared everything. Sociability has emerged, and that still makes Ladins nowadays as cordial and welcoming people.

Ladin ‘viles’ also tell us of a harmonious relationship between man and nature with the goal of protecting the environment for the well-being of all.
