DAY ONE: THIS IS MY COUNTRY - ARRANGED BY MOSES HOGAN

"This Is My Country" is an American patriotic song composed in 1940. The lyrics are by Don Raye, with music by Al Jacobs. Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians were the first to record the song in 1942.

Moses Hogan (March 13, 1957 – February 11, 2003) arranged this version for choir in the 1990s. Hogan was an American composer and arranger of choral music and was best known for his settings of spirituals. A graduate of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) and Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, he also studied at New York’s Juilliard School of Music and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

His discography includes a recording of arrangements of spirituals for the acclaimed soprano Barbara Hendricks, sung by the Moses Hogan Singers, and An American Heritage of Spirituals, sung by the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir, conducted by Moses Hogan and Albert McNeil.
Hogan served as editor of the new Oxford Book of Spirituals, an expansive collection of spirituals, published by Oxford University Press. Hogan’s contemporary settings of spirituals, original compositions and other works have been revered by audiences and praised by critics for decades.

With over 70 published works, Hogan’s arrangements have become staples of the choral repertoire.
