Why do we lie? Why does a person lie in his life? What are the consequences of lying in our life? What are the characteristics of a liar? Can a person resist telling lies? Why does someone lie and what is he hiding? Why does a person prefer lies and not the truth?

Unfortunately, some people in their everyday life find it easier to lie, disobeying Christ's order not to lie. Either small or big lies, people use them to cover up a situation or prevent something bad from happening in a situation, some people lie. But, do we really know why a lie is told, what's the reason?
Someone who's lying wants to protect his image, to protect his ego, to not be humiliated, not to be humbled and that's why he's telling so many lies to cover his "ego".
Even in case that someone lies to cover a loved one, either a friend, a child or a spouse, he does it to cover the one he himself loves, so as the "image" of the one we love is not destroyed as well as our own image. We have a proverb for this situation: "show me your friend and I'll reveal who you are''. We lie only when we cover for people we know but not to cover strangers.
Lies protect our ego and our image so as to exhibit a good image of ourselves to the outside world, so as not to uncover the truth. We think of ourselves as being superior and more worthy than others and that's why we lie. Due to our selfishness, we want to show people a hypocritical image, a fake one, only to appear to be kind and likeable to others.

The Holy Bible tells us always to speak the truth. The humble and truthful person always tells the truth. We learn to speak the truth and love the truth, because the truth is Christ himself. Christ is the life and the Way, the way we go and confess the Truth.
