In history, you sometimes face the conundrum that what is believed to have happened, and what did happen, are two different things that are in need of explanation. So it is that this video focusses on two aspects in parallel: the events that led to the rise of kings, and how and why the rise of these kings was explained as a conquest.
It takes place in parallel also to the events of the last video; the arrival and slow adoption of Germanic culture by the native Romano-British. These three events are intermingled in a fashion which is difficult, if at all possible, to disentangle. I try my best to explain them here, and demonstrate the roots from which Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms arose.
