วัดพระธาตุหริภุญไชยวรมหาวิหาร เป็นปูชนียสถานสำคัญในภาคเหนือ สิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ที่อยู่คู่เมืองลำพูนมาอย่างยาวนานตั้งอดีตนับเวลามากกว่าพันปี ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางเมืองลำพูน ห่างจากศาลากลางจังหวัดประมาณ 150 เมตร มีถนนล้อมรอบสี่ด้าน คือ ถนนอัฏฐารสทางทิศเหนือ ถนนชัยมงคลทางทิศใต้ ถนนรอบเมืองทาง ทิศตะวันออก นอกจากนั้นยังเป็นองค์พระธาตุประจำปีเกิดของคนเกิดปี ระกาพระบรมธาตุหริภุญไชย ภายในบรรจุพระเกศบรมธาตุบรรจุในโกศทองคำ ประดิษฐานในพระเจดีย์ ประกอบด้วยฐานปัทม์ แบบฐานบัวลูกแก้ว ย่อเก็จ ต่อจากฐานบัวลูกแก้วเป็นฐานเขียงกลมสามชั้น ตั้งรับองค์ระฆังกลม บัลลังก์ย่อเหลี่ยม สูง 25 วา 2 ศอก ฐานกว้าง 12 วา 2 ศอก 1 คืบ มีสัตติ- บัญชร (รั้วเหล็กและทองเหลือง) 2 ชั้น สำเภาทอง ประดิษฐานอยู่ประจำรั้วชั้นนอกทั้งทิศเหนือ และทิศใต้ มีซุ้มกุมภัณฑ์ และฉัตรประจำสี่มุม และหอคอยประจำทุกด้านรวม 4 หอ บรรจุพระพุทธรูป นั่งทุกหอ นอกจากนี้ยังมีโคมประทีป และแท่นบูชาก่อประจำไว้เพื่อเป็นที่สักการะบูชาของพุทธศาสนิกชนทั่วไป


Phra That Haripunchai Woramahawihan temple is a royal monastery, Woramahavihan built in the 17th Buddhist century during the reign of King Arthitayarat, the King Hariphunchai 33. Initially,

Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahavihan was the King Arthitayarat’s Royal Palace. The area around the temple consists of inner and outer walls. Later, after the king donated his palace as a temple for Buddhism, the outer wall was removed. According to Lanna ancient belief, a pair of Singhas (a mythical Thai animal: half human being-half lion) was built at the east door as guardians.The interior consists of Phra Borom Chai (พระบรมชัย) the Chedi (stupa) is enshrined Buddha's relics, one of the eight greatest Chedis in Thailand. Krom Phraya Damrong Rajanubhab announced that these are the most sacred places in Thailand, and it is the first Chedi of Lanna Thai.
