Most likely, the Garos were recorded in an ancient Chinese text "Huayang Guo Zhi" 华阳国志 compiled by Chang Qu (c. AD 291 – c. 361) of the Jin Dynasty. When emperor Ming Di annexed today's Yunnan province, they seem to have found several non-Han nationalities in Nanzhong commandery along with the Garos.
