The US was planning on Invading Japan had they not surrendered. The invasion was code named operating Downfall. The first part of downfall was the invasion of Japan’s southern island of Kyushu called Operation Olympic. Operation Olympic would take place on November 1, 1945. B-29s would take part in supporting operation Olympic by continuation of city firebombing, sea mining and attacking military industrial targets. B-29 Bomber bases will be located in both the Marianas Islands and Okinawa.
