The emergence of the Indo-Pacific maritime domain is having a significant impact on the world order. Even as the politics of the Indo-Pacific evolves, Europe, the predecessor fulcrum of geopolitics, seems ready to erupt again. Old battle lines have been re-emphasised, as a new contest brews in the waters of Asia.
How can the world respond to these two arenas, with distinct and different underpinnings, motivations and stakeholders? Is there a consensus in the Liberal system on the emergent challenges? Is there a case for new partnerships with new actors to manage new geographies? Are conflicting demands of land and water diminishing opportunities for 21st-century coalitions?
