For the series it had to happen sooner or later: ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome the first 911 Carrera HYBRID. We know, we can see you from here too, you have a perplexed face, but you're wrong! In fact, how could Porsche introduce such a sensational innovation if not with a hyper-sophisticated system capable of providing abundant power, super reactivity and a completely negligible increase in weight? The new 911 Carrera GTS t-hybrid now combines a completely redesigned combustion engine, equipped with a single turbine and with a displacement that rises to 3.6 liters, with an innovative hybrid system, promising a significant reduction in emissions and an increase in performance .
A first electric motor, in particular, is integrated within the supercharging system, between the turbo impeller and that of the compressor. This engine serves to give support to the supercharging system when the power of the exhaust gases is not yet so strong as to be able to do it easily autonomously - eliminating any turbo-lag - but, above all, it serves to recover energy in the release phases or when the power generated by the turbo itself could trigger a positive feedback process such as to generate pressure values (and rotation speed of the turbine itself) that are too high. It is in this context that this system acts as a replacement for the (absent) wastegate valve, producing energy which is channeled into a new battery slightly larger (in size) than a traditional 48 Volt battery, positioned at the front. The latter, in addition to working at 400 Watts, is capable of storing a total energy of 1.9 kWh gross, which is used to power another electric engine, present, this time, inside the 8-speed gearbox PDK reports. The system, as a whole, is thus capable of delivering 541 (+61 HP compared to the previous version) and 610 Nm (+40 Nm compared to the previous version). The car also changes on the outside and the entry variant to the range is also the subject of heavy modifications, which inherits the engine of the previous GTS and the intercooler of the Turbo, with a maximum power of 394 HP (+9 HP compared to the previous version) and a torque of 450 Nm (same value as previous version).
Come with us to discover all the details of this my 2024 and to hear what our impressions are after making some passes on the Weissach track, sitting next to the legendary test driver Jörg Bergmeister!
